Leather Sofa Beds – Not Your Grandmother’s Pull Out!
Do you remember those horrendous old pull out sofas your grandmother used to have? Not only were they ugly pieces of furniture in the first place, but after you had got rid of the stale peanuts, pennies and cat hair and you laid down on them, you wish you hadn’t – they were so darned uncomfortable.
Today’s leather sofa beds are definitely not like that!
Why Leather Sofa Beds?
Leather is a popular choice for furniture because leather is luxurious, cleans easily, resists spills and looks stylish and comfortable. In warmer climates, leather always feels cool and smells delicious.
There are thousands of choices in leather sofa beds today, and when you look at them you
would never even know they converted into a bed – (which is exactly what you want in the middle of your living room). You can even get a leather sofa bed sectional for more seating room.
There are hundreds of styles of leather sofa beds, and with a choice of over four hundred colors, you should be able to match your décor perfectly. You should have no problem matching your retro, ultra-modern, traditional or casual living room with a new leather sofa bed and if you make the right choice, you won’t be worrying if your overnight guests are rolling around in agony half the night!
Leather Sofa Beds – What To Look For
Always look for good quality brand names, and don’t be afraid to try a leather sleeper sofa out in the store. If the assistant doesn’t want to help you, be suspicious and move on – it probably means their sofa beds are not fit to sleep on!
Check everything out on the sofa bed before you buy it. Many of the older sofa beds had difficult mechanisms, check to see that the sofa bed opens up and closes smoothly without having to use a mallet to get it back in shape! On any couch, the frame is the most important part – make sure it is sturdy and not made from cheap flimsy soft wood that will fall apart as soon as the warranty runs out. You will be using it more as a couch than a sofa, so check it over thoroughly.
Many pieces of leather furniture are not all leather – some say they are, but certain parts will be made of vinyl – especially the backs. If the back of your sofa bed is going to be exposed, do you want to look at vinyl and not luxurious leather? Check that the gussets on the pillows aren’t vinyl either. Many manufacturers cheat by adding vinyl sides and piping to the seat cushions, and these will deteriorate much faster than the real leather on the tops.
Basically you do get what you pay for, although you can still find great prices at a leather sofa bed sale or online. A good leather sofa or couch should last for at least 20 years and look better as it ages – you will probably want to change your décor many times before you change the furniture.
So if you have a small house and growing kids, or you just like to throw the occasional wild party and know you’ll have Uncle Fred staying overnight, make him comfortable – even if he does weigh 250lbs – by making the right choice of leather sofa beds.
